Placencia, a laid-back village on Belize’s Central Coast, is far from a party town, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t places to indulge between stints on the beach.

Start with these seven imbibing establishments:

The Little Wine Bar

Don’t miss this little loft boasting Placencia’s best wine selection as well as other rarely found treats such as hard and soft cheeses, cured meats and delightful accompaniments like house-baked bread, roasted garlic and red pepper spread. You might just make new friends and find yourself a return customer.

Tipsy Tuna

Yeah, I balked at the name, too, but as one of the best spots in town to blast out a night of karaoke (such a big part of the culture here) on beachside real estate, you’ll likely grow to find an affection for it, too.

Find Tipsy Tuna here.

Pickled Parrot

Like the Tipsy Tuna, the expat population at this boardwalk bar is high, but it’s the place to be for trivia nights.

Turtle Inn

This hotel, a jaw-dropping Francis Ford Coppola property, is a pricy spot to lay your head, but worth a visit just to walk around the magical grounds and sip a cocktail at the beachside bar, preferably during sunset.

Rumfish y Vino

One of Placencia’s most popular locales (especially with tourists), the prices are on the higher end, but the large, second-story bar sport’s the village’s most legit cocktails —the habanero gimlet and tangerine rum old fashioned are both stellar.

Cozy Corner

Day drinking is perhaps best done at this beach bar and hotel laden with hammocks and a well-stocked premium bar. Grab a book and prepare to unwind.

Wendy’s Creole Restaurant and Bar

In the heart of the village, this prominent restaurant also features a long, wrap-around porch and a small, belly-up bar offering fresh juices, a signature rum punch and daily drink specials.
